Isaiah 28:6 He will be a spirit of justice to the one who sits in judgment, a source of strength to those who turn back the battle at the gate.

This is one of my favourite weight loss scriptures in the Bible. Of course, there are battles everywhere, and it’s best to fight them right at the gate before they enter your territory (house) and spread like a hidden enemy.

A sister sent me this message after a WhatsApp broadcast that I sent where I spoke to moms on what not to put in your children’s lunch box.

For context, she belongs to a prayer group I lead where I had taught them for 3 months about their health, using Joyce Meyer’s Good Health, Good Life, and she is also a part of our weight loss coaching community.

Below is the message she shared:

“Thank you captain, you’re doing so much you may not know. My 10-month-old baby hasn’t tasted any packed or processed food, only real food. Fruits and vegetables. I’m loving this new development. I am preparing for his first birthday and I’m hammering that there will be no unhealthy food there. It’s going to be an avenue to preach to parents about the need to ‘Save Our Children’ by God’s grace.

I know that change will not be easy, but it will be one person at a time. I haven’t had any cornflakes or coco milk for over 3 months. Tonight I was craving it, but I respected my body and I reached for my tigernut and orange juice. I have not been able to do away with stock cubes, but it’s very minimal. My cube pack has lasted about 3 months. Hubby visited his mum during Easter and he almost rejected her food because it was tasting too much of stock cubes. We are getting there gradually. Thank you so much.”

I was really touched by the many things she said, but I was most touched by the testimony of her baby.

For context, she had waited years for this baby. She had gone through several procedures, painful ones. Finally, her baby is here and she’s being super intentional about him based on all she’s been learning from us.

I’m sure you want to learn too? In this blog, I’m talking to new moms and moms-to-be about how to turn back the battle at the gate, instead of starting a battle you’re now fighting to win.

I’ll unpack her feedback and share three things this mom did right for herself and for her son.

My goal is to help you raise wellness champions right from the book. So, let’s go.

1. She sufficiently educated herself.
Listen, you need to eat something well enough so you can become one with it. Recognize that you’re coming against a real battle. So, let education be your fortification. She got that right by being in two communities: my spiritual community and then my coaching community. Both of them exposed her to the right information. She didn’t just hear the truth. She studied. She learned. She applied. And now she’s equipping herself to be a true champion for her baby’s health.

This is the foundation. People, education allows you to move to a place of understanding rather than guessing or blindly following trends. As a parent, you cannot afford to be uninformed in a world where so much of what is marketed as food is actually not food. It’s killing our children’s health because they’re lab experiments.

2. She’s modeling the right behavior for her son.
What I love most is that this mom is not just talking about doing things for her child. She’s also doing the work on herself. She’s making healthier choices like turning down her own cornflakes and sugary coco milk in favor of tiger nuts and oranges. She’s not separating herself. She’s living it. Her son will see her do the right thing. Her son won’t be confused.

You see, you can’t preach wellness to your kids and then turn around and eat junk. Kids see through that. They’re not just learning from what you say, they’re learning from what you do. Actions and words, they align. And that’s important. She’s not a fraud and there’s no hypocrisy. And if you don’t have kids yet, start now to eat right so you’re not preaching one thing and doing another. Don’t confuse your kids, please.

So, my darling new moms and moms-to-be, this one is for you. Turn back that battle at the gate. That’s where He’s giving you a lot of strength for. Turn it back at the gate. Don’t let the enemy in. Turn it back at the gate. It’s easier that way because once they come in and hide, elimination is harder.

It’s time to raise wellness champions and not future patients.
