When guitarist Dewey Finn is separated from his rock band, he is on a hill of debt and depression. He shares the apartment with old band member Ned Schneebly, who is now a substitute teacher. Dewey accepts the role of substitute teacher in a snobbish private school where his attitude and hijinx have a powerful effect on his students. He learns that they are talented young musicians, and decides to form a rock band with them to win $ 10,000 in prize money at a local band competition. When Dewey wins the Battle of the Bands contest, the prize money solves his financial problems and puts him back in the spotlight for rock music. Steve Shedloski
