What’s new in Windows 11:
– Windows 11 gets a whole new design. Microsoft clearly needs a good reason to go back on its previous claims and abandon Windows 10 by introducing a new operating system number. And a brand new design fits in perfectly. The Redmond giant has long been preparing a redesign for an update codenamed Sun Valley (“Sun Valley”) – apparently under this name it was Windows 11. The Sun Valley project has long flashed on the network – Microsoft revealed regularly released details about the new interface style, insiders shared previously unknown information, and popular designers around them drew realistic concepts based on all this data.
– Startup and system items float above the bottom bar. Start is the calling card and the face of all recent versions of Windows. Unsurprisingly, the developers will transform it again in Windows 11, but not so much functionally as visually – the Start window hovers above the bottom row. We must admit that this small change makes the system much cooler. Judging by information from the network, Microsoft will not radically change the “interior” of this menu – the innovations will only affect the design of the window itself. The control panel will also float and its design will be exactly the same as “Start”. The action center is combined with the command buttons – a similar one has long been used in some other operating systems. Almost all mentions of this new menu indicate that it will be an island – control buttons are on a separate panel, notifications on another, and specific items (like a player) on another separate panel.
– The right angles disappear, they are replaced by fillets. In reality, insiders and concept designers disagree on this point – some are sure that Microsoft will not change its traditions and keep the right angles, while others are sure that Microsoft will follow the fashion of nets by 2021. The latter fits better with the definition of “all new Windows” – floating menus alone are not enough for a new design to be considered truly new. The files are expected to affect almost everything in the system, from context menus and system panels to all application windows. True, although on this subject the opinions of designers differ – some draw fillets in all possible interface elements, others combine them with right angles.
– There will be a backgroundtransparent with blur everywhere. There are disagreements on the internet about the island style of the windows, the design of the corners and the floating effect of the menu, but almost everyone agrees on the transparency of the floors. The vast majority of design leaks and renders show transparency and blur in all windows, be it at least the Start menu or File Explorer. Moreover, there are these effects even in the assembly of the discontinued Windows 10X operating system, which Microsoft developed in parallel with the Sun Valley project for dual-screen devices and weak gadgets. The so-called acrylic transparency implies the use of new effects when hovering over elements, as well as an increased distance between elements – the parts of the interface with which the user interacts will certainly become larger, and headers pages will be thicker.
– New font already displayed. Windows 11 will most likely use the default Segoe UI Variable font, which already appeared in Windows 10 Build 21376 for Insiders. The advantage is that it is suitable for both small texts and large inscriptions. This distinguishes it from standard fonts, originally created for small or large formats. For example, the stable version of Windows 10 currently uses the Segoe UI font, designed for 9pt. With smaller inscriptions it becomes difficult to read, and with large inscriptions it looks expressionless.
– Windows 11 gets new icons and Windows 95 icons disappear. Yes, they are still used. Microsoft will finally transform the icons used throughout the system. It’s not just about folder shortcuts, trash cans, and other icons in File Explorer. We are talking about all the icons available in the Shell32 directory. There are still icons from the Windows 95 era, and it was only recently that Microsoft updated their design in one of the insiders – they will migrate to Windows 11, of course.
– Windows 11 will have functional innovations – there are a lot of them, but they are all small. Much less is known about the features of the upcoming update than its design. But since Windows 11 and Windows 10X (the abandoned operating system for weak and foldable devices, the image of which leaked on the network) were developed in parallel, we can safely assume that all the features of this last will appear in Windows 11. For example, Windows 11 will appear when the camera is used on the computer – the corresponding indicator will appear in the system tray.
