Hey Hey . On June 29, 2024, I had the absolute joy of hosting the Save Our Children Wellness Revival and launching my book, Wellness Champions, co-authored with my two amazing boys! Can we get a round of applause?
This blog is all about my session at the event, and I promise it’s going to be a fun ride, so buckle up!
Now, let’s dive right in. Today, I’m addressing something that’s been tugging at my heartstrings: LET’S SAVE OUR CHILDREN! And guess what? It was also my birthday! Talk about a double celebration!
A Little About Me:
I’ve never faced a health challenge—thank you, genes!
I’m a sociologist, not a child health nutrition expert (but I’m learning!)
I believe I’ve been CHOSEN for this mission. Yep, you heard me right!
So, why am I here? It all started with a dream in 2023. I saw this sentinel figure and felt compelled to dig into the scriptures ( Ezekiel 33:1-4).
The role of a sentinel?
To sound the alarm about potential dangers. And let me tell you, friends, the danger is real. We’re facing a global health crisis and a junk food pandemic that could spell trouble for our kids’ health if we don’t take action!
Now, let’s be real. I may not have health challenges myself, but I’m on a mission to help others, and I’ve been doing some serious research. The more I learn, the more I realize just how dire the situation is. So here I am, sounding the alarm and blowing the trumpet. We need to change how we feed our children, both in public and in the cozy confines of our homes.
Here’s a story for you. I was coaching a lovely doctor (yes, a real-life superhero in scrubs!) who had all sorts of health challenges. Can you believe it? Even doctors need a coach! She had paid me for a whole year, and I was trying to help her adjust her diet. I mean, she knew what she was supposed to do! But for some reason, she just couldn’t stick to it.
One day, I decided it was time for a heart-to-heart. “Why are you struggling so much?” I asked. And her response? “Coach, it’s not your fault!” Phew!
But then she hit me with her backstory: “When I was younger, my mom would serve me real food—rice, beans, you name it. But I would reject it! Every time she offered real food, I’d turn my nose up and ask for junk. I grew up on junk food, and breaking free from that? It feels impossible!”
At that moment, my heart broke for her. Here was a doctor—someone who knows the ins and outs of health, struggling because of the eating habits she developed as a child. It was a reality check, and it made me realize just how deeply our childhood experiences shape our relationship with food.
But don’t worry! This isn’t the end of our journey together. Join me in the next part, where we’ll explore more about how we can turn the tide and empower ourselves and our children to make healthier choices. Trust me, you won’t want to miss it!
